  1. Create boolean strings. Using ChatGPT, you can reference a specific job description to automatically create a custom boolean search string tailored to the role's requirements. By referencing the position’s key responsibilities, required skills, and preferred qualifications, ChatGPT can generate a boolean string that helps pinpoint suitable candidates in databases or applicant tracking systems. This approach helps in efficiently identifying candidates who are most likely to be a good fit for the role based on your hiring criteria. Here’s a sample prompt to get you started: Based on this job description, draft a boolean string to guide my search.

  2. Discovering job title variations to guide your search. When kicking off a new hiring process, I use ChatGPT to guide my search for candidates by asking it to suggest different titles for a role. It will help surface job titles you wouldn’t naturally have thought of. Using ChatGPT helped me both widen my search and look into a broader spectrum of job titles while also hunting for candidates with specific skills and background. Here’s a sample prompt: I am hiring a {insert role}, suggest different job titles this person may have.

  3. Generating new subject lines for your sourcing efforts. You can use ChatGPT to come up with new subject lines when reaching out to and sourcing candidates. This can be particularly helpful if your previous subject lines were not performing as well as you had hoped. ChatGPT can help you brainstorm new ideas and rewrite your subject lines to make them more effective at getting the attention of potential candidates. By using ChatGPT to generate new subject lines, you can experiment with different approaches and test which ones are the most effective at attracting the right candidates. This can help you improve the performance of your outreach and increase your chances of finding the right candidates for your open positions.

  4. Personalizing outreach to never say "hope you're well" again in a sequence. You can use AI to re-write your emails and come up with more unique ways to pitch your company (can we lay the term all-in-one to rest? It doesn't mean anything to anyone including buyers). AI language models can analyze your writing style and suggest alternative ways to phrase your ideas, helping you to craft more engaging and personalized emails. By using AI to rewrite your emails, you can experiment with different approaches and test which ones are the most effective at getting the attention of potential candidates. This can help you make a better first impression and stand out from other recruiters who may be using more generic or formulaic introductions. Additionally, using AI to come up with more unique ways to introduce yourself can help you avoid starting emails with phrases like "hope you're well," which may be overused and less effective at capturing the interest of your recipients.

  5. Detecting tone in writing. You can use AI to detect tone and re-write your emails in an empathetic manner. For example, if you need to reject a candidate and are concerned about the tone of your email, you can use AI to help you rewrite it in a more compassionate and understanding way. AI language models can analyze the words and phrases you use and suggest alternative ways to express your thoughts and feelings that are more sensitive and considerate. I was able to use AI to rewrite a rejection email and felt that it did a good job of conveying my message in a more empathetic manner. Using AI in this way can help you communicate more effectively with candidates and build stronger relationships with them, even when you need to deliver difficult or disappointing news.

  6. Learning more about the roles you're recruiting for. You can use AI to understand the responsibilities of a role and describe the different tech stacks you are recruiting for. AI language models are trained on large datasets of text and can analyze and understand the meaning of words and phrases. This can be particularly useful when you are recruiting for technical positions and need to accurately describe the skills and experiences required for the role. By using AI to understand the responsibilities of a role, you can more accurately convey the requirements to potential candidates and attract the right people for the job. For example, you can use AI to describe different tech stacks you're recruiting for. Using AI in this way can help you streamline your recruitment process and help you understand the candidates you're speaking with.

  7. Drafting interviewer training guides. Creating interviewer training can be a time-consuming and detail-oriented process that involves a ton of writing. To help make the task easier and more efficient, you can use ChatGPT or a similar AI writing tool. These tools can help you to expand on your ideas and re-write sentences in a more cohesive and understandable way, potentially saving you time and effort as you develop your training materials. Using ChatGPT or a similar tool can be a helpful way to streamline the process of creating interviewer training and ensure that your materials are clear and effective. For example, here's how I used ChatGPT to re-word this bullet point :)

  8. Re-write an email using neutral language. Recruiting is a process that requires a great deal of empathy, patience, and speed. To help you communicate effectively with candidates and respond to their inquiries in a timely manner, you can use an AI writing tool. These tools can assist you in composing neutral responses that are tailored to the specific needs of your candidates, helping you to communicate clearly and efficiently. Using an AI writing tool can be a helpful way to streamline the recruitment process and ensure that you are able to provide timely and empathetic responses to your candidates.

  9. Providing hard-to-explain office location directions. Sometimes it can be challenging to find an office, especially if it is tucked away in an obscure location. To make the process of reaching your office easier, you can use ChatGPT to help explain to candidates the best way to find your office. [Explain it to a child]

  10. Drafting hiring event invites and descriptions. As someone who has experience organizing a wide range of events, including recruiting fairs and comedy shows, I have found that AI can be an invaluable tool in drafting hiring event invitations and descriptions. As a one-person operation, AI has helped me to more easily and efficiently create event materials such as descriptions, thank you letters to attendees, and responses to frequently asked questions. By using AI to assist with these tasks, I am able to focus on other important aspects of event planning and execution and can be confident that my event materials are professional and well-written.

  11. Expanding on company values. Describing company values in a way that resonates with candidates can be challenging, but you can use ChatGPT to help expand on your company values and draft a statement that effectively communicates your values to candidates. To get the best results, it's a good idea to have a list of values and examples of how your organization lives out each value. ChatGPT can then use this information to write a company values statement that holds weight with candidates and helps them understand what your company stands for and how it operates. By using ChatGPT in this way, you can effectively convey your company's values to candidates and help them understand what it would be like to work for your organization. This can help you attract the right people for your open positions and build a strong, values-driven team.

  12. Generating hiring ads. You can use AI to help generate new angles to advertise open positions to candidates. I asked ChatGPT to generate an ad for me and here's what it created. 🏡Join our dynamic team as a Customer Support Representative at our cleaning company!🏡 We're looking for someone with excellent communication skills and a friendly, can-do attitude to help us provide the best service possible to our clients. If you have a passion for helping others and enjoy working in a fast-paced environment, apply now! 📲

  13. Re-writing job descriptions. You can use ChatGPT to rewrite job descriptions and make them more effective at attracting the right candidates. ChatGPT can help you identify and eliminate any biases or unnecessary jargon, and suggest alternative ways to phrase your ideas that are more inclusive and clear. By using ChatGPT to rewrite your job descriptions, you can create more compelling and accurate descriptions of your open positions and attract a more diverse pool of candidates.

  14. Re-writing careers pages to highlight your unique value proposition. You can use ChatGPT to rewrite your careers page and identify your unique value proposition. By using ChatGPT to rewrite your careers page, you can more effectively communicate the benefits of working at your company and highlight your unique value proposition to potential candidates. This can help you attract the right people for your open positions and differentiate your company from competitors. Additionally, ChatGPT can help you identify your unique value proposition by suggesting alternative ways to phrase your ideas and highlighting the most compelling aspects of your company culture and work environment. This can help you create a more compelling and accurate portrayal of your company and make it more appealing to potential candidates.

  15. Re-write your company pitch in candidate-friendly language. Some websites are full of industry jargon that's hard to understand for people who are not familiar with the industry. In these cases, it can be helpful to use ChatGPT to reword your company pitch into everyday language that is more accessible and easy to understand. By using ChatGPT to rewrite your company pitch, you can more effectively communicate your value proposition and make it more appealing to a wider audience. This can be particularly useful if you are targeting customers or candidates who may not be familiar with your industry and may be intimidated by technical language. This is inclusive.

  16. Write a post announcing open roles. I asked ChatGPT to write a Linkedin announcement for me to share open roles. Here's what it wrote: Attention LinkedIn community! We're excited to announce that we are hiring for several new positions at [Company Name]. If you or someone you know is looking for a new opportunity, we encourage you to check out our open positions and apply. We are a dynamic and growing company with great team culture, and we are always looking for talented and motivated individuals to join us. Please feel free to share this announcement with your networks and help us find the best candidates for these exciting roles. Thank you for considering a career with us!

  17. Re-write text with emojis. I asked ChatGPT to write the bullet point above using emojis and here's what it produced: 📣 Attention LinkedIn community! 📣 We're excited to announce that we are 💼 hiring 💼 for several new positions at [Company Name]. If you or someone you know is looking for a new opportunity, we encourage you to 🔍 check out our open positions and apply 📝. We are a dynamic and growing company with great team culture, and we are always looking for talented and motivated individuals to join us. Please feel free to 🗣️ share this announcement with your networks and help us find the best candidates for these exciting roles. Thank you for considering a career with us! 🙏

  18. Creating interview FAQ guide for candidates. You can use ChatGPT to turn a few bullet points describing your interview process into a FAQ guide for candidates. By sharing a list of questions and answers about your interview process, you can provide potential candidates with more information about what to expect and help them feel more prepared and confident. ChatGPT can help you turn your bullet points into a more comprehensive and engaging FAQ guide by suggesting alternative ways to phrase your ideas and expanding on your points in more detail. This can help you create a more useful and user-friendly resource for candidates, and make it easier for them to understand your interview process and how to best prepare for it. By using ChatGPT to create a FAQ guide for candidates, you can improve the transparency and clarity of your recruitment process and make it more welcoming and inclusive to a wider range of candidates.

  19. Summarizing large thoughts and text into smaller ideas or bullet points. You can use ChatGPT to summarize large bodies of text or complex ideas into smaller, more easily digestible bullet points. This can be particularly useful when you need to condense a large amount of information into a shorter format, such as a summary or a set of bullet points. By using ChatGPT to summarize your text, you can more effectively communicate your ideas and make them easier to understand and remember. This can be a valuable tool for communicating complex ideas in fewer words for hiring partners and can help you save time and effort when summarizing large amounts of information.

  20. Troubleshooting your recruiting strategy. I asked ChatGPT to help me attract more women and people of color (two categories I fall into) into my pipeline. It generated a pretty solid response. To diversify your candidate pipeline and increase the representation of women and people of color, there are several strategies you can use. First, consider using targeted job advertising to promote job openings in places where these groups are more likely to see them, such as job boards and websites that specifically cater to underrepresented groups. You can also partner with organizations that support diversity, such as schools, professional associations, and non-profits that focus on supporting the careers of women and people of color. In addition, it's important to review your recruiting processes to ensure they are inclusive and do not unintentionally exclude certain groups. This could include reviewing your job descriptions and application process to make sure they are welcoming and accessible to all candidates. Another option is to consider using diversity-focused recruiting firms, which specialize in sourcing and recruiting diverse candidates. Finally, you can offer employee referral programs and encourage your current employees to refer diverse candidates for open positions. Research has shown that employees are more likely to refer candidates who are similar to themselves, so this can be an effective way to increase diversity in your candidate pool. Now it's your job as a human to research the best partners, job boards, and strategies that work for your field, your company type, the roles you're hiring for, and the locations you hire in.
